Pedro: a journey of effort, love, and transformation
Pedro is 4 years old and lives in Dragones. He was born premature and, from his first days, faced major challenges: multiple hospitalizations for malnutrition and a significant height deficit. When he arrived at Pata Pila, he needed constant stimulation in every area of his development.
His story reflects how important it is to act during the first years of life. The first 1,000 days are key to a child's physical and cognitive development. Proper nutrition during this period is the difference between a childhood full of opportunities and one marked by health and learning difficulties.

That's why, through the Malnutrition Prevention and Care Program, Pata Pila works with a comprehensive approach, supporting children like Pedro in every dimension of their growth. An interdisciplinary team closely follows each child, addressing not only nutrition but also the environment they grow up in.
During his time at the center, Pedro received nutritional care, early stimulation, and psychopedagogical support. Thanks to this process, he now walks, runs, plays, communicates fluently, and shows great curiosity about the world around him. His creativity and enthusiasm are signs of his enormous progress.
But his journey continues. During his treatment, a hearing difficulty was detected that affects his ability to communicate. His mom recalls that, a week after he was born, he suffered a stroke in the right hemisphere, which may have contributed to this condition. Despite this, Pedro has adapted with admirable resilience: he can read lips and keeps exploring the world with his smile always present.

A story like Pedro's is possible not only thanks to the work with children, but also thanks to supporting and empowering their families. Pata Pila trains mothers in nutrition, hygiene, and healthy habits, giving them the tools for their children to grow up in a safe environment that supports their development.
Pata Pila's care centers are equipped to offer comprehensive support.
They include:
- Nutrition, pediatric, psychopedagogy, and social work consultations.
- A kindergarten for early childhood development.
- A workshop space for trade skills and training for mothers.
- Green recreational spaces and community gardens to encourage healthy eating.
Pedro's journey shows that, with support and love, it's possible to transform lives. You too can be part of this change and help more children like him overcome malnutrition and reach their full potential.
